MESSRS CLARK & GANE'S NEW PREMISES CAMBRIDGE.

Within the past year we have had occasion to dilate from time to time, and often at considerable length on the increased commercial developments of Cambridge, and the enterprise of the lesidents, not only in this important respect, b'^t in every other which characterises the progress of the place. The numerous places of business which have been erected of late, the additional conveniences and improvements which have been provided, as well as the many other improvements of a more extensive and useful nature contemplated as being piacticable at no very remote period, are all indicative of progress The growing business of Messrs Clark and Gane has become so extensive as to demand increased accommodation, their late premises being comparatively useless, and they were thus compelled to proceed with the building of the place which they now occupy, and which iinpaits a commercial aspect to the quarter of the town in which it is situated. The new place, which was built by Mr Smerdon, of Cambridge, has a frontage on Duke-street of 28 feet by 42 feet deep, and is built entirely of wood of the best procurable nature, the roof being of galvanised iron. With the exception ot the office, which is situate immediately in front, the interior is used entirely for storage purposes. To facihtf te carriage a trolly is constructed to run along the floor from the front entrance to the back, and a drive is formed round the building so that carters can go to the back and discharge their load or load, as the case may be. Immediately behind the front building is being erected a large store for the storage of manures, bonedust, agricultural implements, <uul other bulky and inconvenient wares, and the spacious yard at the back will be fitted up for the reception ot timber. The w hole work is estimated to cost over £600.
