Mr Bryce gave notice that on going into Committee of Supply, he would move a further reduction of departmental cost to the extent of £30,000, and that Government be directed during the recess to give effect thereto by means of the reduction of salaries and consolidation of offices and otherwise. Replying to questions put, it was stated the grounds upon which the Government gave its assent to the introduction of the Timaru Harbour Board were that it contained other besides endowment proposals, and they did not desire to burke discussion on the subject. Bills Advanced. The Patea Harbor Board Borrowing and Eating Bill was introduced by Major Atkinson and read a first time. The Prisons Act 1873 Amendment ; Public Domains ; Inspection of Machineiy j Fnendly Societies ; and Parliamentary Privileges Bills were read a second tune. The Public Reserves and East Coast Land Districts Bill were passed through committee, and the former was reported, read a first time, and passed. The House adjourned at 5.30.
