PUBLIC HALL, TE AWAMUTU. Election of New Trustees. — The Auditing of the Accounts.

Ptrnsr v\t to advertisement appearing in the Waikato Tiuks, a meeting of Volunteers and subscribers to the hall was held on Wednesday evening, Mr W. Sloane in the chair. The Chairman called upon Mr John Mandeno, as secretary and treasurer of the hall, to read the minutes of the la3t public meeting. This was accordingly dono, and it appeared therefrom that no public meeting in connection with the hall had taken pkce since November, 1878. , x Mr John Mandeno then read the report of the auditors, which is as follows :—: — " 19th June, 1880. — Te Awamutu Public Hall Accounts. —Report of Auditors.— The items specified hereunder we are not in a position to audit. Th« Treasurer informs us that he has no vouchers relating to them ; also, that the original entries thereof have been made by him in his own private account book, which latter has not been submitted to us. Subject thereto, we have examined the Te Awamutu Public Hall accounts and vouchers for the years 1878 and 1879, and we find thpm to be correct. We observe that the ledger has 507 page 3, all of which are without entry. We would recommend the advisability of directing the treasurer to make his ledger entries for the future in these pages, instead of making, as at present, an unlooked for and improper use of the index of that volume. — (Here follow certain receipts amounting to some £11). — (Signed) Thomas W. Wbatherill, Thomas Gresham, Auditors Te Awamutu Public i Halt." It appeared that no accounts since 1879 had been audited. The accounts as read were then passed by the meeting. Mr Stephen Westney, acting as treasurer of the Piano Fund, then read bia accounts in connection with this special fund. These were very satisfactory, and elicited from the Chairman the remark that no one found fault with Mr Westney's account keeping. The following gentlemen were then elected to act as trustees for the ensuing - year : — '. 'aptain Rutherford, Lieutenant Wilkinson, aad HesarV Sloane, Lewis,

andWestney. Messrs James Mandeno and Joseph Carley were elected auditors. The meeting terminated with the customary votes of thanks. , The hall is now clear of debt, but it requires lining and painting. It is to be hoped that the newly-appointed trustees will, by entertainments, etc., raise funds to effect these improvements. The new blood now infused into the trustees will doubtless be the moans of conducting the affairs of the hall upon an improved principle, as too much apathy has oeeii hitherto evinced in the matter.— -[Own Correspondent.]
