SUPREME COURT. The Te Aroha Murder.
[BY KLLCTRIC TELEGRAPH, OWN CORRESPONDENT.] Auckland, Last Night. At the Supreme Court, the charge to the Grand Jury was very shoit. Referring to the Te Aroha murder, the Judge said : "I am not aware there is any technical difficulty in the case. You will just have to deal with it as men of common sense, to say whether the evidence is such as to warrant the prisoner being put upon his trial. That murder has taken place is only too certain. That murder has been committed b)' some one, but even that fact is not to be token for granted as against prisoner. It is a subject for congratulation that suspicion in this case has not fallen upon any person who may be counted as one of the regular settlers of the colony. If the unfortunate man who is charged with the crime should prove to be guilty of it, this will be another instance of crime -which has come from a distance — adventitious it may be called — as the man does not belong to our community, " A true bill was found against Procoffy, and the trial was fixed for Monday. Topano Rawiri, the Maori, was acquitted of the charge of uttering a forged cheque.
