TE AWAMUTU.

The usual monthly meeting of the trustees of the Rangiaobia Road Board was held at Lewis's Hotel on Saturday last, the 26th inst., at which Messrs Walton, (Chairman), Whitfield, Johns, and Bond were present. The minutes of the last meeting having been read and confirmed, the Chairman reported that an arrangement had been made with Mr Teasdale for the purchase of the old river crossing, on the Ohaupo Road, for the sum of £5, and the cost of removing his fence, so as to fence it out of his land. This will be a great public convenience as it is the only stream through which cattle can be driven between Kihikihi and Ohaupo, to say nothing of the saving of wear and tear to the bridge by herds of heavy cattle which otherwise must have crossed it. Also that allotment 54a. containing over 8 acres on the margin of Lake Ngaroto had been temporarily gazetted a recreation reserve. Mr Whitfield reported that he had inspected the drain along the road near the old Mangapiko saw-mills, and the continuation through Mr Storey's land which it had been proposed to clean out, and as it was of material benefit towards draining that part of the swamp road, it was decided to subsidise the owner of the adjoining land through which the outlet drain passed to the extent of one half the cost of cleaning it out. Mr Robert Cunningham attended with plans of a road running between h'"s land and that of the Roman Catholic Bishop in Rangiaohia, and made an application to I have same stopped as it could never be of any use on account of engineering difficulties, but as certain road deviations had been made in that part of the district years ago, which were not shown on the district map, it was arranged that Mr Percy Smith, chief surveyor should be written to, (before any action was taken) for a plan showing the existing roads in that locality. As the bush reserves in the district were now being defined, it was decided to write Mr Tole, Crown Lands Commissioner, for information as to the Board's powers over them. The Minister for Public Works having advertised for tenders for metalling the Railway-station- road, a letter was ordered to be written to the Mangapiko Board, a3 part of the road was in that district, referring to certain works which would have to be done before the metal could I be laid. I A lettter having been read from the [ Colonial Secretary, covering a copy of pc- ! tition from certain ratepayers in Uhaapo, asking to have their lands added to the Pukekura District, and asking for the opinion of the Board, and a statement of objections to the proposal, the Chairman was instructed to acknowledge the receipt of the letter, and ask for a copy of the plan referred to in the petition.
