THE CAMBRIDGE WEST HOTEL.

TO THE EDITOR. Sir, — The communication of Mr Morris, published in your latest edition, is, as I take it, simply a confirmation of my letter. to you. In the first place, MiMorris denies that lie appeared as secretary of the Total Abstinence Society, and spoke as such. I accept his denial, and now condemn him out of his own mouth. Mr Morris appeared as secretary of the New Zealand Alliance (whatever that may be), and made a statement (not a speech) to the effect mentioned by me. Mr Morris then states, in effect, that it is the principle of his Society to oppose licenses, and the opposition would have been exerted no matter who helped or opposed. Then, I should like to ask, why was not Mr Camp's license opposed 1 and why was not Mr Montague's 1 Mr Morris and his confreres, have taken upon themselves a public duty (upon principle), and in the estimation of the public have neglected their self-imposed task. 1 do not consider it necessary to prolong this discussion. I would simply state that, in my opinion, Mr Morris lias, on his own admission, given to me the most conclusive proofs of the truth of my assertions regarding the alleged alliance between the Society to which he belongs and certain hotelkeepers in Cambridge East. — I am, &c, W. F. Madigan. Cambridge, March 17. P.S. — With regard to Mr Morns' mild sneer about £5, let me inform him that, did I only acquire my money half as -easily as he and his Society seem to acquire theirs, I should gladly accede to his i request, W.F.M.
