Peopk from all parts of the district put in an appearance, the number present on the course being fully 500. The whole of the arrangements were ably carried out by the Committee and the Secretary Mr Tanner, to whom much credit is due. Everyone present thoroughly enjoyed the days outing, their pleasure being considerably enhanced by the music supplied by the Te Awamutu Cavalry Band, under Bandmaster Sibley. The Band is rapidly gaining proficiency, and will soon put the rival institutions of Cambridge and Hamilton on their mettle. The racing was good, the contests for tho most part being close and spirited. HANDICAP HURDLE RACE. Mr Rutherford's Sportsman .. ..1 Mr Puke's Saint 2 Mr Thompson's Buokland ... ;. 3 Gladstone, Argyle and Blinkbonny alae ran. A very good start was effected, all the horses clearing the first and second hurdles, but Blinkbonny baulked at the third, taking off Gladstone, both being thereafter out of the race. Sportsman now took the lead and won easily. MAIDEN PLATE. Mr Puke's Saint ... .. .. 1 Mr T. Bond's Molly Darling 2 Mr Bruces Argyle 3 Marchioness, Maori Weed and Totara also ran. Mr Storey's Billy 1 Mr Graham's Fanny 2 Mr Tanner's Minnie 3 Blackbird, Robinson Crusoe,Barney and Dora also started. Billy went through hia horses and assumed the lead in the second round, never after being collared. It waa explained that the horse was entered in time, but as his handicap had not been published, Mr. Graham was allowed to withdraw his protest. MAORI RACE. Tandem 1 Ponge 2 About five started, Tandem coming in an easy winner. SELLING HACK RACE. Mr Puke'a Saint 1 Mr Tanner's Minnie 2 This was a well conte-ted race between S&int and Minnie. Coming up the straight, it appeared as though Saint's rider endeavoured to crona Minnie, when the latter's jockey (Wilron) deliberately horsewhipped him. After the race Wilson entered a protest against Saint, which has not yet been determined. Great indignation was expressed at the action of Wilson, the opinion being that he, being an experienced rider, ought not to have taken the law into his own hands, - but should have left the matter for the stewards to deal with, more especially as the rider of Saint was a Maori.

CONSOLATION HANDICAP. Mr Kays Orakau 1 Mr Ransfield's Robert the Devil ... 2 Mr Pattersons Gladstone ... ... 3 There were (only three entries, Orakau winning easily.
