Wellington, Saturday, The Steamer Mohaka, -which went ashore at Blenheim yesterday, is reported this morning as likely to become a total wreck, and has been abandoned. A heavy sea is breaking on the bank, She is owned by Captain Symonß and two others, and is insured for £41Q0 in the Victoria Office. A monster native meeting is abou being held at "Wairarapa, at the instance of Paroa, an East Coast prophet, but the Maoris are earnest in the assurance that the meeting has no politioal significance, and merely a social gathering. Enormous preparations in the collection of food &c, are going on. ,

Christchurcli, Saturday. A five-mile foot race for £50 aside and the championship of Christchurch, took place to-day between W S. Fagan and P. Wollertoh, the former winning easily by 100 yards, in 29 ' minutes 5 seconds. The iuneral of Sir Oracroft Wilson today was largely attended. The service was conducted by the Primate and the Rev. Mr. Watson.

Blenheim, Last Night. [ At the preliminary enquiry into the wreck of the little Bteamer Mohaka, today, evidence shows that the mate went below, leaving an unqualified person in charge, when, mistaking the distance from land, ran the vesael ashore.

, Auckland, Last Night. The alarming telegram published by the Herald to-day that the Victorian Government turret-ship Cerberus had been blown up with a torpedo turns out to be a mistake. Only one of the ironclad's boats was blown up. The details regarding the Cerberus disaster show that the gig left the ship at- the Heads to explode a torpedo charge, and during the preparation an oav fouled the wire, and although the battery was not connected, an explosion was caused, and the boat and all its occupants, save one were blown bo atoms.

Tauranga, Last Night. The Taupo leaves here shortly, and may be expected in Auckland in ten days. Mr Falkner's Hotel at Bowentown was burned down on Saturday. The building was insured. The fiist sale of lands at Stewartown was held to-day at Messrs Turner and Buddies auction room. Captain Turner was the auctioneer. A large number of sections were sold. The building for some wa3 very spirited. Some Te Puke settlers were large purchasers, and the sale is considered very satisfactory.

Wanganui, Last Night. The sale of stock at Messrs Owen and Leithbridgc, Ruatangata run, was concluded on Saturday, having lasted four clays. The amount realised will probably be about £15.000. There was good competition for all classes of stock.
