— Host Peaice, of the " Commercial," Hamilton, has somo excellent bottled Bavarian beer just now. Far lighter and in every way a more pleasing beer than "Bull Dog."

—Which latter brand, by the way, has, to my mind, fallen off lately, savouring of Gregory powder.

— It has often been said New Zealand could not be killed by misgovermnent, and bo I find that in 1880, during which the Ministry were in a condition of mental gloom and political darkness, the productive power of tho Colony was greater than ever. The exports for that year; are £600,000 above 1879, and the total is the highest sum yet reached.

— When lawyers quarrel honest folks will get ■ their own. Tins is a poor parody of «a well-known proverb. But when the Hamilton East action for slander is tried I hope to get a front seat.

— A smart boy in a Dunedin school, a scholarship candidate, was asked by his teacher a simple question in Biblical history. His answer betrayed so much ignorance that as a further test the master asked, "Who was Jehovah?" The boy, after consideration, replied, " The King of the Moabites." The rest of the scholars exploded. Somebody should be whipped for that youth's melancholy iguoiancc.
