PIAKO COUNTY COUNCIL. Enforcement of the Counties Act.
, A special general meeting of the above Council, was held in the National Hotel, Cambridge, the afternoon of Wednesday. Present : The County Chairman — Mr R. H. D. Fergusnon, — and Councillors Williams, Hunt, Chopmell and Campbell. The Chairman explained that the meeting had been convened in terms of subsection 3 of Clause 12, which provided as follows : — The Council may at any time, hold a speoial meeting for the purpose of determining, and may determine by resolution, that the whole of this Act shall come into force in the county. Cr. Chepmell moved, and Cr. Hunt seconded, that the whole of the Act of 1876, be brought into operation as specified in clause 13 of the Act. The motion was put and carried without dissent. Clause 13 referred to provides as follows: — 41 If the Council determine by resolution, passed by a clear majority in number of the whole council at any special meeting, that the whole of the Act shall come into force within the county, then the whole of thin Act shall be in force therein, on and after the next day after the passing of such resolution, and such resolution shall not thereafter be altered or rescinded by the Council." The first general meeting of the Council was fixed to take place on Saturday, the Bth proximo at 2 p.m.
