At the inquest on the body of Mr Rees, who was killed on the New North road, the evidence pointed distinctly to the Fijian. After the evidence had been taken, he made a statement confessing the whole of his murderous deeds. He said the boys laughed at him for being little, and said the Maoris would cut his throat. His master also found faiilt with him since he came to Auckland in presence of another white man, and said the white men would hang him up to a beam. He disclaimed being mad, and said these were the reasons that actuated him. A verdict of wilful murder was returned.
