Cobresfondence.— Tho following letter was read from the officer commanding, in reference to attending the Review in Auckland, to be held on the Prince of Wales Birthday : — Volunteer Office, Te Awamutu, 15th September, 1880. Sir,— l have the honour to inform you that I have received an invitation for the Waikato Cavalry Volunteers to take part in .1 Re\ie\v at Auckland on 9th November (Prince of Wales Birthday. My opinion is that the troops under my command should do their nc\t six d.ij s' training in the district, so as to keep up their efficiency, thov ha\ing been at the Thames l.i^t Easter, ana contemplate holding a Review with the Thames Volunteers no\t E.ibtcr. If the Troop under your command, or any portion ot it, wish to take part in the Review at Auckland in No\ ember, it will be in addition to the usual six days' drill. I request you will be good enough to bring the above prominently before the Troop under your command, and communicate the result to me at your earliest opportunity. — I have the honour to be, Sir, your most obedient Servant, W». Jacksov, Major, Commanding Waikato Cavalry Volunteers. Officer Com. Cavalry Volunteers, Hamilton. Resolved, V That in view of the opiuiou of the officer commanding that the Troop under his command should do their next six days' training drill in the district, this contingent decides that under these circumstances they must give up the idea of visiting Auckland in November, but had their six days' training been allowed to count they would have been in favor of going." Resolved, "That this contingent is in favor of an annual encampment at Easter, and to be composed of all the Volunteers in the Auckland Province, to be held alternately at Auckland, Thames, and Waikato, as it would tend to raise the standard of efficiency, and be in accordance with the opinions of the greatest military authorities of the day." The following new members were then duly proposed and elected : — Messrs Peter Rice, Patrick Jones, Robert Stokes, William Buck, — Stoup. The first three being in attendance were duly sworn in. Lieut. Johnson read the official declaration of the scores made at the carbine match held at Te Awamutu on the Uth inst., and regretted that the Hamilton team had only secured second place. In the matter of non-commissioned officers, Lieut. Johnson suggested that in accordance with the new rules these had now to be chosen by the officer commanding. It would be a good plan to allow any member at their usual monthly drills to stand out and put the men through their drill, and at elections the officers should examine the candidates as to their proficiency and make their choice accordingly. The members present were unanimously in favor of the foregoing suggestion and a resolution to put the same into effect was duly proposed and carried. After arranging for ball practice before the next match, the meeting separated with the usual vote of thanks to the chair.
