SERIOUS ACCIDENT TO MR. J. COCHRANE.

We regret to have ta record the occurenoe of a very distressing accident to Mr Joseph Cochrane of Hamilton. On Saturday afternoon Mr Cochrane was returning home from Hamilton with a twohorae waggon, and had reached his own yard, when the horses stopped sooner than he intended. Wishing to bring them forward a few yards, he placed himself directly in front and taking hold of the bridles, attempted to draw the animals on. The horses, instead of advancing gently, went forward at a rush, the pole of the waggon striking Mr Cochrane below the stomach and thrusting him violently against the panels of the yard. The injuries received were of such a nature that it was necessary to carry the sufferer into the house, and a messenger was at once dispatched to Cambridge for Dr. Waddington, who at once returned and remained with the patient all night. It was feared at first that internal injuries of an alarming nature had been inflicted, but on Sunday morning the patient was somewhat better, and the doctor entertained a more hopeful .opinion. We made personal enquiry yesterday and were pleased to hear that Mr Cochrane is still improving.
