DEPARTURE OF THE WAIKATO CAVALRY.
Campbelltown, Yesterday. The different troops composing the Waikato Cavalry left to take part in the review at the Thames on Easter Monday, on Thursday morning. The Cambridge Troop mustered at Cambridge at 10 a.m., and with the exception of a number of the oountry members, proceeded in easy order to Morrinsville ; many joining at different parts of the road. Piako was reached about two o'clock, and a stay of an hour was made for lunch and feeding the horses at Wood's Hotel. The troop then proceeded to Waitoa in good order, reaching Campbelltown at about five o'clock. The officers present Were Captain Runciman and Lieutenant
Fisher, and the total number on parade, including 14 bandsmen, was 60. SubLieut. Kirkwood was too indisposed to undertake the overland journey, and proceeded to the Thames via Auckland the same morning. The appearance of the men was exceedingly creditable, and all were in the best of spirits and pood humor. They enjoyed the ride to Waitoa exceedingly, and passing through a country new to the majority and surpassing all their expectation •. At the Fiako, during lunch hour, the Cambridge Band, under Sergeant Mackintosh, played some selections of music in excellent style, and also pl'iyd on horseback on marching into Campbelltown. A sumptuous meal was provided for the men at Missen'a Te Aroha Hotel, after which a concert was held in the Public Hall. The musical part of the programme was contributed by the band and Sergeant Mackintosh,while a number of lady and gentlemen amateurs from the Waikato and the Waitoa district supplied the vocal portion and a really enjoyable evening was spent by all present. After the cmoert a dance was held, and kept up spiritedly for a few hours. The proceeds of the entertainment were devoted to paying off a portion of the debt remaining on the building. The Te Awamutu and Hamilton troops stayed at Piako last night having arrived there after the departure of the Cambrid/e troop, and will follow the latter over the Waihou this morning.
