THAMES-WAIKATO RAILWAY. PUBLIC MEETING AT WAIHOU.

A MthTixo of the settlers of tho Waitoa and Piako districts was held on Saturday last, at tho Public Hall, Waihou, to urge upon the Government the desirabilty of at once proceeding with the railway works at present in progress, by extending the line to the AVaihou River. In the first section of the line at the Hamlton end, only £10,000 was expended, and a sum of £70,000 had been voted and was available. A considerable number of residents were present, and Mr Chas. Gould having been voted to the chair, the following resolutions were unanimously agreed to :—: — (1.) That in the opinion of this meeting is is desirable that the extension of the niihvay from Hamilton to the Waihou or Thames River, should be proceeded with forthwith. (2.) That Messrs W. A. Murray, M.H.R., C. Gould, T. C. McCormick, Reuben Parr, and John Pafmer Campbell, be appointed to prepare and transmit to the Go\ eminent a memorandum on the subject. (3.) That the chairman forward to the Member for the district a copy of the first resolution requesting his co-oporation and assistance in urging tqc work upon the Government.
