SPORTING. THE PUKEKOHE RACES. [OWN CORRESPONDENT].

PuKfeKOHE, Tuesday. The annual races at Pukekohe were held to-day. There wds a large concourse of people on the ground from the surrounding districts. The weather was showery, but cleared up in the afternoon. The stewards were Messrs Barnaby, Roulston, Crawford, Morrow, Caffery, Grosse, and Mills ; judge, Mr Roulston ; clerk of the scales, Mr J. Bilkcj ; clerk of course, Mr W. Grosse ; starter, Mr. H. Crispe ; handrcappers, Messrs J. Finlay and Cranston. Handicap Hurdlk Race. — First horse, £7; second horse, £1. Entrance, 10s. Distance 2 miles, over 8 flights of hurdles. Top weight not exceed nst. Five horses started. This was a ■\ cry good race, and the horses took the hurdles ivel'l, without accidents. Five horses were entered, and a good start was effec ted. Ladybird for a good distance took the lead. The final result was : Lusk's Ravenshoe, 1 ; White's Barney, z ; Walker's Ladjbird, j; Miller's Flirt, o; Hulme's Butterfly, o. Pony R\ce. — First holse, £4 ; second horse, £1. Distance, ■} miles.
