TE AWAMUTU. [FROM OUR TRAVELLING REPORTER.] GOD'S ACRE.

A meeting of the Vestry of St. John's, Te Awamutu, was held on Thursday evening in the parsonage, the ftev. Mr Phillips in the chair, to consider the neglected state of the grave? of the soldiers killed in the engagements in the vicinity of Te A wamufcu. The following memorial to the Government was prepaied and signed by the members of the vestry : — " The churchwardens and vestry of St. John's, Te Awamutu, Wai. kato, are desirous to call the attention of the Government to the neglected state of the soldiers' graves in the churchyard at Te Awamutu. The wooden tablets formerly erected to the memory of those who fell in action whi'e fighting lor their Qaeenare now fast falling into decay. In some instances the particular** are actually obliterated, but many names (European as well as Maori) still exist. The vestry wish therefore to urge upon the Government the propriety of their granting a sum sufficient to defray the expenses of erecting a stone obelisk, on which should be specified the names and regiments of the soldiers above referred to." It is to bo hoped that the Government will accede to this request, and thns save from oblivion the memory of those * Europeans and friendly natives who ,Jpst their lives in the Waikato War.
