RETURNED SOLDIERS' ASSOCIATION

A meeting of the R.S.A. committee was held in the-Club .Rooms,'' Mr G. Cloughley presiding and Dr C. H. Gordon, Messrs A. Thomson, H. C. Johnstone, S. A. Odell, D. Alexander, W. Whittingham, and the secretary, Mr Fred L. Girvan were present. The action of the secretary in forwarding a letter of congratulation, to the parent® of Sergb. J. D. Hinton, V.C., was endorsed. Considerable correspondence from headquarters was dealt with, and the yecrietary was complimented on his interest and report dealing with t-h© proposed re-organisation of the sub-asso-ciations in Southland; these include a direct representative form the Eastern and Western Districts on the Irivercargill executive committee and the formation of an advisory council, on a proportional representation basis, for the whole of Southland. A suggestion to institute some definite form of acknowledgment for Sergt>. Hinton was deferred Until definite information was received of his release arid early return to N e w Zealand. . A 'proposal was adopted to organise a Christmas party for the children of sirvinjr soldiers or younger members of their families and the junior members of the families of returned men.

A sub committe©, Messrsi Thomson, Whittingham and Girvan, wm appointed to ascertain the number likely to be present and to suggest the form of the entertainment.
