Representatives from Thornbury, Wright’s Bush, Flint’s Bush and Otar huti were present at the annual meeting of the Thornbury Debating Society and W.E.A. Mr R. Buchan was in the chair.
Ihe election of office-bearers for tho 1940 session resulted as follows: —Patron, the Hon. Adam Hamilton; president, Mr lan Fraser; secretary, Miss Nessie Fallow; vice-presidents, McsdamCs George Carter, T, H. Anderson and Messrs J. B. McLean, It. Cameron, George Carmichael, T, McKenzie and B . Buchan; committee, Mesdames Buchan and G. Galt (Waimatuku), Miss Hall and Messrs Leo Keith (OtaLuti) John and D. Fallow and K. McKenzie. It was decided to have tlire© intqr-club debates if arrangements could he made to hold them; to hold a question box.meeting; to carry out a mock mayoral election on the same basis as in 1939 wliein Mrs-Buchan was elected mayoress and Mr K. McKenzie mayor, and to give every second evening to W.E.A. activities, and to conclude the session hv a mock wedding and breakfast. The subscription de bided upon was 4/- for men and 2/6 for women.-
