TOWN v. WESTERN. The Town team which travelled to Riverton on Saturday to play Western District proved itself a very strong combination, winning by 19 sets to •5. Although the epuntry representatives were well up to the standard of former years they were opposed on this occasion by players with excellent Jsiabch temperaments as well as- a good equipment of strokes, both of which qualities have not always been possessed by those representing Town in previous matches. The conditions for play were excellent and the match was thoroughly enjoyed both by participants and spectators.

The Town men were more definitely superior to their opponents than tho Town ladies, for they won five out of the six singles and all three doubles. There were many hard-fought games, however, the Westerners dying gamely in every instance. The Town ladies won four of the six singles and, after keen struggles, all three doubles. The first four mixed doubles went to Town, the remaining two to Western. Ab evidence of the even nature of most of the individual matches it may be mentioned that although winning by 19 Bets to 5 Town’s margin in games was ci Iy 207 to 147.
