C Baker, submitted the following report;— Since last meeting, although the weather ha s been considerably drier than the average, the progress made with construction metalling was disappoint ing, and some works that should have been finished weeks ago were still under way, their chance of completion before winter being small. In connection with the matter br.jug'.t befor c last meeting by tne Waimatwku River Board and Mr Hugh Mathies.on regarding proposed extension of the board's deepening work, in the first place beyond its 5-:h-3.iu>e, and in the second beyonde it boundary.—On April 20 Councilors Buckingham, Cody., Jame s and Mr met the interested parties en the ground, and the matter was fixed up to the J-alis-faction of all concerned, the work to he gone on with immediately. With reference to the request of the Otautau River Board for permission to deposit spoil on road along the new channel north of George street, this was really a matter the council should look into. If this road was ever to provid 0 for wheeled traffic the clumping of spoil by the board would increase th 0 cost of an improvement in this direction, whereas if the spoil were levelled the existing road surface would in places be improved. Regarding Mr J. A. Pears' application to erect motor gates on Wreys Bush Moslsburn main highway, I put the matter before the local representative ■of the Main Highways Board, whose letter is now before the Council objecting to the proposal. In connection with the application of Messrs Birfles and Ramsay for' improved access to land on east side of the Aparima river at Etalvalo, and asking that a bridge at this place he considered, Councillor Cody made an inspection of tbe locality, and as h e was willing to liberally subsidize Govemmon money for making the road on the east side of the river leading to this place and push the work through to completion in a reasonably short time, I could not recommend the suggestion of Messrs Ramsay and Birtles to erects a short bridge ove r the low water portion only of this river, leaving the rest of the river bed to be negotiated by road. It would be only a matte r of time when the bridge would require extension, which might possiblv continue until the bridge became four times its original length before safety wa s reached. —Adopted. It was resolved to inform propertyowners to cut noxious "weeds on roadlino fronting their properties, and the lowering of fences at the corners, surfaceman t 0 inform the engineer of these plans. —Tenders.— The following tenders were let at Wednesday's meeting of the Wallace County Council. — Formation, etcetera, Charters road, Block V., Centre Hill S.D.—Accepced, subject to deposit.
