RIVERTON REGATTA CLUB

The annual meeting was held in the Town Hall on Monday, and was attended by twenty-six members. Mr E J Stevens presided. Apologies for absence were received from Mr T E Trail and G (L Dickson.

The report and balance sheet were read, a report of which appeared in our last iseue.

The amount received by way of subscriptions was £94 13/1 and the prize money paid out £BS 10/-. The assets consisted of £75 3/- in the Savings Bank and £SO m Governriient debentures a total of £125 3/-. The Chairman in moving the adoption of the* report and balance-sheet said the year bad been a very satisfactory one, and the public had responded right nobly. The credit balance would disclose the fact that the Club had made a small credit each year. Pr.aise was'due the starter and starter’s stewards for the manner in which races were got off, also the Secretary. For a number of years the swimming had not been a success and he thought if these competitions were held on the north shore they would be more successful. Mr Willett in secondin d the motion said the balance-sheet was very satisfactory. He could remember the time when there was a debit, instead of a credit balance. The motion was carried. The election of office-bearers resulted as follows:—President Mr E J Stevens'; Vice-presidents, A E Willett W Scobie, Jno Geary, J A Martin. Dr Trotter; General Committee, Messrs N Beer, S Bailey, F Ashley. J Joyce. G Dickson, D Tweed ie, H Helm. J Hodgson. G Swift; Secretary and Treasurer, Mr P A Bell; Auditor, Mr G Robertson.

It was resolved that the Regatta be held on 27tli December. Dr Trotter and Mr S Bailey were re-elected canvassers. ■ .

A recommendation was carried that the Senior Fours bo rowed below the bridge, and that a boat be anchored in place of a buoy near the wharf. A recommendation was also carried that tli© swimming events be held at the north wharf.

Mr Johnstone said the matter ot parking cars should he gone into this year. It was-pointed out that the Borough Council controlled the traffic on that day.
