Before commencing the ordinary busi ness Mr Macalister referred to the death of one of the oldest, if not the oldest, solicitor practising at the Invercargill bar in the person of Mr W Y H Hal'l. His Worship, stated that lie had' known the deceased gentleman for a great number of years and greatly regretted? his demist?. Judgement was given in the following undefended cases, by default:— Commissioner of Taxes v Isabella- King £4 5/10, costs 10/6; same v G 0 Bain 17/10 costs 10/-; G Muir v A Stewart £2 19/- costs 16/6. —Judgement summonses — Mercantile Agency Co. v A E Stevens To pay £7 18/11 on Ist November in default 7 days in gaol. R Buchanan v WG Andrews. To pay 13/- on October 18th in default 4 days in gaol. \G Muir v G Ritchie. To pay 10/- per monthtill account is squared Ist payment to be made on Ist November. McGill Smith Ltd, v P -Sheedy Jnr and II Smyth v P Sheedy Jnr. No order made defendant stating that he has been out of employment for some time arid wag uriabl© to find employment. Police v A Willis, charged with a breach of a prohibition order. Defendont pleaded guilty and was fined £3 costs 15/- Police v H Cartwright who was charged with supplying Willis with liqiipr was. fined £3. costs 7/-. Police v H! Small charged with breach of a /prohibition order. Defendant pleaded guilty and was fined £2 costs 7/-. '■ ,G B Saxelby Inspector for the Wallace County Council v Jas Wilson charged under the Motor Lorry Regulations with using a. motor lorry on a County road not being the holder of a license in, respect to such vehicle. A Bell County Surfaceman in evidence stated that he had seen Wilson on the county roads on several occasions driving a White L-orry. G B Saxelby stated that he had written to defendant as to taking out a license hut coilld not get an-answer to any of his communications. No license had been taken out in the Southland, or Wallace Counties by defendant. His Worship inflicted a fine of £2O with costs £3.0/6. His Worship, delivered his reserved judgment in breaches . of' Revenue rind Licensing Aci W and R Dickson were each fined £SO. with costs 7/W G Coulter was fined £l2 10/0 costs 7/-.. The charge against A Coulter was dismissed.

G F O’Connor was fined £2O costs 7/-. ■ - The charges against G O Bain and J Bain were dismissed.
