WESTERN DISTRICT RUGBY SUB-UNION.

The annual meeting of tbe Union was held in the Globe hotel, Riverton, on Saturday, when Mr P. 0. Mills presided over a fair attendance of members,

The report and; balance-sheet for tbe past season were presented, by the Secretary and Mr 0. S. Cassels. . The balance-sheet showed the receipts to be £96 10s, and the expenditure £BS Is 3d. Two accounts had, however, been received for car hire, .mounting to £l3 15b, so that after ibese had' been paid there would be a' slight debit balance. * The report stated that five teams had entered for the senior competition, viz., Orepuki, Colac Bay, Riverton, Otautau arid Nightcaps, the latter being the winners. Four teams entered' for the junior competition, viz., Orepuki, Riverton, Otautau and Nightcaps, Riverton being the winners. Teams from the same districts competed/ for the third grade coinpetion, Nightcaps securing, the honours. During the season the following interdistrict matches were played:—Town v. Western District, at Invercargill; lost, 12 points to nil. Eastern v. Western District, at Edendale- a

lraw, 11 points each. Northern Onion v. Western District,, at'Riverton; lost, 8. points to 3. CbntTal Union v. Western district, at Otautau; won, 10 points to nil. Town v. Western District, at Nightcaps; won, o points to nil. Town v. Western District, 'at Otautau. Messrs " L Brown and D. Baird were chosen to represent Southland, and both player.; are to be congratulated on their play. Baird was also chosen 'to represent New Zealand. The President, in moving the adoption of the report and balance-sheet, said t-Fat last year there was a debitbalance of £55 18s 7d;. He was pleased to see that this amo'unt had been practically paid off. As they were til aware, football was the national mine in the dominion, and additional interest would centre ou the game in these parts during the corning season, as eight representative matches would be played in Invercargill, included in which wai? a French match. He had. attended the meetings of the Southland Rugby Union as their cVelegate, and was pleased to state that- the centre had given recognition to district players. The past year Jiad been- a satisfactory one for football in the Western District.—Mr S. Hirst seconded the motion for the adoption of the Teport and balancesheet, this being carried unanimously.

A communication was' received from the Southland Union asking that any remits be forwarded as early as pes-: sible, as these would be considered at the annual meeting. The following office-bearers were elected for the' oiwiiing y«:—President, Mr F. C. Mills (re-elected). Vice-Presidents —Messrs P. Bioyle, B. Rushton, J. Duncan, A. C Mills, J. T. Brooker, C. Aitcheson, E. M'athe*son, P. J. Keady, F. Wilson, O. Quested, H. Spear, E. A. Trail, J. Matheson and E. Boraman. • Secretary and Treasurer, Mr O. S. Caasols. Committee—Messrs A. W. Gapp, B. Lee, Tj. Brown, J. Miller, A. Woods, H. Anderson, S. Hirst, EL Bone. The question of appointing referees was held over until next "meeting. Mr F. C. Mills was again appointed delegate to the Southland Rugby Union.

The subscriptions were fixed as formerly, viz., £2 2s for senior teams, f '.l Is for juniore, and school, teams free.

It was resolved that delegates have the right to vote by proxy.

It was resolved! that the Southland Rugby Union be asked to supply footballs frce v of cost to all schools, and thus foster the national game. The question of insuring players against accident was left to the President to inquire into. A vote of thankrs to the chair terminated the meeting.
