Western Star And WALLACE COUNTY GAZETTE. Published Every Tuesday and Friday. FRIDAY, FEBRUARY 3, 1922. COLAC-ROUND HILL ROAD.

There is a very old saying anent the stitch in timo saving nine, and .ve offer no-' apology for repeating it. To do a thing in time saves labour and money. This is particularly true with regard to roads. A welltravelled road, if left year after /bar without any surfacing 1 /■ eoon gets into such a condition as to require almost as much expenditure as a new road. Ah the present time the Colac Bay-Round: Hill road, at the Colne end, is , badly in need off attention. The continuous wet weather of the early summer made it easy 1 for the heavy traffic to wear all the gravel from 'the centre to the outside of the ruts, and unless some surfacing ig done,' the winter will see the roadl nothing but a water channel. The longer the work is delayed the more the gravel will be thrown away from the road, and become overgrown, which will mean that new gravel will be required, whereas if attended to- at once, the gravel on the outside of the ruts can be usedl to make the road level and at the same time free the water tables, thus making it a good road for itinter. In view of the fact that Lake George occasionally rises above its normal level and floods the road, every endeavour should bo made to keep this particular portion of the road well crowned.
