Cochrane (Mr Patrick) application to prospect for coal in Wajau district.—Granted. —'Magistrate’s Court.— Judgment by default was given in the fSuowing case: Spear and Patrick v. Jas. Wixon, £lB 16s 2d; costs £2 15/-. Constable Woods brought up the question of the disposal of twelve bottles of beer which ho found in Palmerston street, Riverton. —The Magistrate said the beer could not be disposed of, as there had been no conviction. —'No order made.’

H. B. Barry proceeded against T. White for assault at Ermedale on 26th June. —White was fined £5, with costs £2 12/-, half the fine to go* to Barry.
