RIVERTON RACING CLUB.

The monthly meeting of the Club was held on Saturday evening, the President, Dr Gordon, in the chair. A deputation was heard fro® the ownera and trainers, who asked for extra facilities for winter training. The one fast track, they contended, was not sufficient. Messrs Hymers and Ward addressed the meeting. They pointed out it was their desire to do the beet for their owners, and if the tracks were not open they could not do this. Since the Hunt Clubs were given permits training conditions had changed considerably, and horses to compete at those winter meetings must be kepit going. That morning thirteen horses had i worked on the fast track.—The Chairman said they were pleased to see the deputation, so that they couldl come to’ an understanding with regard to training, which they always wished to 1 encourage. He would warn them, however, that the dub would not be dictated to in their right to the disposal of the tracks. The closing for the two winter months was done so that the tracks could) bo opened on the Ist August in perfect order. They could rely ou receiving every consideration from the Committee.—lt was decided (1) That the steeplechase and hurdle tracks be open for work andi schooling at any time; (2) the plough and one grass track be open for 6low work; and, (3) that the present track be open for fast work on Tuesdays and Saturdays. The Commissioner of Stamp Duty notified the Club that the 'fractions from the investments on the totalisator must be paid into the Consolidated Fund.—lt was decided to forward a remit to the Southland delegates meeting in August agitatiug fox legislation to be brought permitting Clubs to pay out to the last penny on the investments.

The Secretary of the Southland Racing Club wrote stating that_ the meeting of Southland Clubs’ delegatee would be held on 3rd August, ancl remits must bo in hand on 20th July. The annual meeting of the Riverton Racing Club was fixed for the 31st August at 7 p.m., after which a smoke concert will be held in More’s Hall at 8.30, to which representatives of Southland Clubs will be invited.

The Course Committee reported that the new steeplechase course jumps were now planted with seedless gorse, and the shelter planted. The fast track was standing the work on it very well.

The President outlined certain necessary improvements required for next year.—lt was decided to ask the Architect to meet the Committee on the course.

The Committee decided to adopt the form of indemnity track ticket issued -by several northern Clubs.
