A man. who refused to leave a reserved seat in a first-class carriage on the train at Christchurch, he not being the holder of a ticket for sarnie, was charged with the. offence under the by-laws. Defendant maintained; that there was no mark denoting that the seat was engaged, and as the carriage was full, and it was a smoker, ho said he could not get another seat. The magistrate said, as it was the first case brought forward in Kew Zealand the defendant would be convicted and discharged. “Hearts of Qak” has been chosen by the Admiralty as the sailors’ marching song on ail ceremonial occasions. The Royal .Marines will retain “ A Life on ./ho Ocean Wave ,J as their marching tune.
