RIVERTON BEAUTIFYING SOCIETY.

The annual meeting ‘ of the above was held in the Town Hall, Riverton, on Tuesday evening, there being only a moderate attendance. In the unavoidable absence of the President (Mr J. C. Thomson) Mr Gifford presided.

Apologies for absence were received from Mr Thomson and Mr H. Akhurst. The report stated that sixty-six members had been enrolled during the year, and work hadl been carried put on the plantations. The Treasurer, Mr H. J. Walden, presented the balance sheet, which showed the receipts to be £lO7, and the expenditure £9 7s 4d, leaving a credit balance of £97 12s Bd.

In moving the adoption of the report and) balamce-sheet, the Chairman said he hoped the membership would be increased to 400. Mr Tannook’s report had been received some few months ago, and the question of holding a fete to- raise funds should be considered. Riverton was being visited; by a large number of tourists every year, and the society- should do all in its power to make the surroundings more attractive.

Mr Willett seconded the- 'adoption of the report and balance sheet. The report received from Ala- Tanuock was a valuable one, and should assist the Society in carrying out the Work.— The motion was carried unanimously. The following office-bearers were elected! for the ensuing year: President, Mr J. C. Thomson; Vice-Presi-dents, Messrs G. H. Gifford and H. Akhurst; Secretary, Mr Stock; Treasurer, Mr H. J. Walden; Auditor, Air E. Patrick. Executive Committee : President, Vice-Presidents, Secretary, Treasurer and Messrs C. E. •fohustone and T. King.
