OTAUTAU PROGRESSIVE LEAGUE.

The monthly meeting, held in the Board room on Friday evening, was attended by Messrs W. J. Mesney, O. N. Lawless, Jno. Fisher, W. Porteous, P. Beggs, W. Donuan, W. Walker, G. Sinclair, A. N. Holmes, T. Powell, L. J. Brown and T. A. Mooney.

Jno. Fisher, Clerk, Otautau Town Board, intimated that £8 10/- had been authorised for clearing; broom on Recreation ground. Mr R. B. Collett had been appointed representative on the League. Messrs E. Harrington, R. B. Collett and G. H. Stevens were appointed a Pavilion Committee.— Received. Jno. Fisher, Clerk, Otautau Town Board, wrote stating that tenders had been called for the pavilion on the Recreation Ground. —If was decided to accept the tender of Mr Sutherland of £275 for the erection of the pavilion. ' Seoretray, Tennis Club wrote to the effect that the Club had not yet appointed a Committee to take over the money granted.—Received. Secretary, Wallace A. and P. Association intimated that the Association had granted £5 towards the cattle pens.—Accepted with thanks. Acting District Engineer, New Zealand Railways, intimated that the cattle pens had not been finished satisfactorily, as they required more levelling.—Work to be gone on with, Messrs Walker and Begg.s to finish satisfactorily. O. W. H. Strettell, Secretary Stockbrokers’ Association, forwarded £5 donation to Receiving pens.—Accepted with thanks. —

Inspector of Mines asked for information re property on which drilling for coal is required.—lnformation to be forwarded. A letter had been forwarded to the Otautau Timber Company re supplying electric power for the town, and it was decided that a deputation wait on the Town Board re the (matter. It was decided to buy half-acre Education section at the bridge, and donate same to the Board for a site for the soldiers’ memorial and for gardens, provided the Board pay the compensation to the present lessee. The secretary was instructed to write to the Beautifying Committee asking them to procure oak trees for tree planting. It was decided to recommend to Monday night’s meeting that the winter show be held on 27th and 28th May. It was decided to donate £5 for correspondence to the Southland Times for the ensuing year, the chairman to arrange lor a correspondent. It was resolved that the Town Board be requested to go into the housing problem. Accounts amounting to £36 18s were passed for payment.
