RIVERTON BOROUGH COUNCIL.

The monthly meeting of the Riverton Borough Council, which is usually held on the first Monday of the month, was called for Thursday evening, as the first Monday in April fell on, Easter. The Council has adopted this method for at number of years past, and the Clerk sent out the notices of the meeting accordingly on the Ist of April. When the Councillors assembled last evening Cr. Gee said he would like to know what authority the Clerk hadi for , calling the meeting on Thursday, considering the “ Better ’Ole” company was playing that evening. He considered the Clerk exceeded his authority, as the DeputyMayor should have been asked to' name the day on which the meeting should he held, The Clerk said that when the monthly meeting fell on Easter Monday it was generally held a few days after, which custom had been in vogue for years past, and he had sent, the notices on the first of the mouth culling the meeting, for Thursday. Cr. Johnstone said it would have been better to interview some of the Councillors as to when the meeting should have been held, and he moved that the meeting that night he adjorned.—This was seconded by Or. Gee.
