A strong demand exists l at present for heifer' calves (says the Levin Chronicle), and prices are reaching as high as £5 and £6. This is in contrast to last year, when they were a drug on the market, and were realising only £1 and 30/- per head. The reason of the advance is that a number of Taranaki buyers have been operating in the district for the past month or two, and have been buying up oyerj"tiling offering.
