HOTEL MANAGER KNIGHTED.
SIMILAR HONOUR. FOR FATHER AND SON. London, February 23. The decision of the King to confer a knighthood on Mr William Towle, the manager of the Midland Railway hotels from! 1871 to 1914, recalls the interesting circumstance that his son, Lieut .-Colonel Sir Francis: Towle, who succeeded him in the position, also received the knighthood last year. Mr Towle’s career has been romantic one since he. started work in the bumble capacity of an hotel boy at Derby. Every side of the business was studied by him in turn," and lie was the first Englishman to develop the idea of an hotel system on an extensive scale. Among the hotels Mr Towle designed and superintended were the Midland Hotel, Manchester, and the Midland Adelphi, Liverpool, which claims to be the finest building of its kind in England. Mr Towle’s- services were enlisted by the Minister of Munitions early in the war, and he has been one of the most active members of the Liquor Control Board. He is at present enjoying a holiday at Nice.
