MEAT FOR AMERICA.

THREE ADDITIONAL 810 SHIPMENTS. RELIEVING CONGESTED STORES. Mr W, Irving Carney, (manager of Armour and Co., Ltd., for New Zealand, has informed the Southland News that the s.s. Northumberland has sailed for New York with a, cargo of frozen meat and lamb, and that the s.s. Armagh sails this week and the Suffolk early in April with further quantities for New I erk and Boston. The, hulk of the meat has been purchased by Jjfcrmlour and Co. Owing to the congestion of refrigerated stores , in England, cargoes of mutton have, already been despatched from thence to America. This is .an entirely new market for this class of New produce, and is occasioned by the United States being principally a beef and pork producing country, mutton being a comparatively unusual article of diet for Americans 1 . Mr Carney, after making strong representations to the Prime Minister to authorise such shipments, and offering to provide shipping accommodation entirely apart from the regular refrigerating boats trading to England, eventually arranged with the Imperial Government for the pin chase, and the the depletion which these additional steamers will make in the quantity of meat stored up in the various New Zealand works will afford much needed room for the present killing season.
