SOUTHLAND MEETING. The weather broke bad On Wednesday for the first day of the meeting, but improved on Thursday. The course being heavy upset form, and consequently during the two days some good dividends were paid. The total amount put through the .totalisator was £39,105, an increase of £BOOO on the previous meeting. Messrs T. and F. Trail’s Jock won the Southland Cup, beating the cracks, while Tin Sbldief and Samiel, two locally trained horses won the Awarua Handicap and Tradesmen’s Handicap, respectively. The steeplechases wore well contested, and a fine exhibition of jumping was given. Sain Sebastian won the Southland l Steeplechase and Zarkoma the Invercargill Steeplechase.
