IRISH CONCERT AND DANCE.

Perhaps what was one of the bes entertainments ever given in Otantai was produced by Mr Tris Seareli’ concert * party from Invercargill a Friday evening, when the Irish of th district held a concert- and daub© ii honour of St. Patrick’s Day. Th* charge For admission was very smal] and the - crowded attendance |yovec this to be a sound propostion as tin balance-sheet will show a balance on the correct side of about £2O. Among the performers were Messrs Bud Wills, champion cornet player of New Zealand, Mr Rex. Wills coruetist, and Mr Mehaffey violinist. The programme was a very long on© and was well rendered throughout, so praise could not be fairly meted out to any individual performer. Miss Vette once more proved herself a- delightful dancer while Mr Wills received tremendous applause for his performance on the cornet. Th© following was the comprehensive and varied’ programme: —Opening chorus, Company; dram®, Mr G. Braxton; hum* our at the piano, Mr A. Miller; song, Miss Doris Vette; voilin solo, Mr. B. Mehaffey; comedy duet, Messrs Mayne and Stewart; song, Miss Isa Laing; comet eolo. Bud Wills; humorous recitation, Miss Baird; humorous farce, Misses Vette (2), Messrs Stewart and Seareli. Miss Ford and Messrs T. Crooks and Hunter for providing the music for the dance, the Ladies Committee for providing th© supper, th© Concert and Dance Committee, and the secretary and organiser. After the concert the hall was cleared, and dancing begian to splendid music supplied by Miss Ford (piano) and Messrs Crooks (violin) and Hunter (cornet). A bountiful repast was provided by the Ladies Committee and handed round at a suitable interval. The dancing was continued till 3.30 a.mi., when the amusement came to an, end much to th© disappointment of the young people who seem to get more enthusiastic about this pastime even though the season is so hot. Miss Muir danced a Irish Jig which was well received, and Mr It. Collett .made a very efficient M.O. It is the intention of the Committee to hold a similar function every year, and it is said that the next one will be held on St. Patrick’s Day, 1921.
