WALLACE COUNTY COUNCIL.

FRIDAY, MARCH 19. The monthly meeting was attended by Councillors John Horrell (Chairman), P. J. Dyer, T. A. Buckingham, P. J. lanseott, L. Cody, W. J. A. McGregor, G. Rodger, T. Flynn and S. Fowle. R. G. Cowan, Merrivale Road, drew attention to a dangerous washout on Cowan and Orosbie Road at the Bend, and started that the culvert already promised by the Council for erection at the place, would meet the case and prevent accident.—To be attended to when money is available. R. Q. Cowan, Merrivale- Road, and a petition from ten others drew attention to the state of Cowan and Crosbie’s road leading from Merrivale to Waikouro station, and requested thatsame be gravelled before the winter sot in.—To be gravelled when funds are available.

H. S. Mitchell, Ruahine, requested permission to leave gate on road.— Granted, subject to usual conditions. Public Works Department wrote informing the Council that the amounts of £IOO for Donkin and Burns road, and £IOO for Riverton and Orepuki road would be granted when plans, specifications and estimates were submitted to the District Engineer.— Received. Engineer to supply requirements. Messrs Thomson and Georgeson, Otautau, asked permission to sledge huts from mill site to their factory at Otautau.—Granted under usual conditions.

T. B. Curie applied for 6d por yard royalty on gravel carted through his property. —Received. W. L. Russell, Moesburn, offered £4 per acre for road running through Sections 227 and 227 a., Taringatura District.—Clerk to write to applicant informing him what the cost would he for this road.

Harrison, Sutherland and Barker, Titatapere, offered to buy wfiro rope from old ferry service on the Waiau River to use to protect a bridge which had been built over the Orawia Stream.—To be attended to. T. D. Pearce, Hon. Secretary, The Rocks Association, forwarded suggested alterations to the proposed by-law for The Rocks township.—Deputation from The Rocks Association to approach the Council at next meeting in April. Trail and Stevens, Pleasant- View, Hekeia, requested permission to leave wood cutting plant on roadline leading to section 35, Block I, Jacob's River Hundred.—Granted during the pleasure of the Council, the applicants to take all risk in the matter.

A petition from ratepayers of Waivio Riding requested that a Ranger be appointed for that Riding.—Nightcaps ranger to be appointed for this district also.

A. Bulmau, Fairfax, requested 3d per yard royalty on gravel taken from his property.—-Writer to be informed that the Council has property in the vicinity where plenty of gravel is obtainable; Defence Headquarters, Dunedin, informed the Council that' two machine guns, war trophies, had been granted to the Comity.—Accepted. Mrs McLaren- and others, Eastern Bush, asked that attention bo given to the cutting at MoNaiughton’s.—Being attended to. Town Clerk, Nightcaps Town Board, informed the Council that it would be hold responsible for damage done to road by Mr Baird when gravelling. Clerk to obtain further information, -and attend to the matter. Accounts amounting to £4136 los 3d were passed for payment. ' One ca-se of pneumonia was reported at Mossbum. The rates oustanding were £3OOO. The Council adopted a superannuation scheme, and decided to make the necessary application to the Board. A number of ratepayers in Wairaki and Wairio Ridings asked that a Danger be appointed for these ridings.—Ranger to visit this vicinity three days n month. Cr. Buckingham gave notice of motion that the motion to pay royalty m gravel be rescinded. Decided that the Committee appointed to inspect Mr Matheson’a drain meet the Commissioner of Crown Lands, on Monday, 29th inst., to inspect same. The Council is £IOOO in credit at the present time. On the motion of Or.
