WALLACETOWN STOCK SALE,

The usual weekly sale at Wallacetowu yesterday was well attended. The aggregate yarding was larger than usual, and the demand for all classes of-stock was good. Fat Cattle.—The entry in this section was good, and some really good beasts were offered. Competition was keen, the presence of butchers from Gore and Dunedin, and one or two graziers who were operating kept th.e market firmi. Ox beef made from 47/0 to 48/6 per lOOlbs. Heifer beef from 45/6 to 46/6; cow beef from 43/6 to 44/6. Prices were £2o' 15/-, £2O 5/-, £l9 5/-, down to £l4 5/-, for bullocks ami steers.

large as last week, but nevertheless was good. The entry comprised mostly wethers, only a few pens of ewes being forward. The quality all round was good, and there was spirited competition from local butchers. Extra. prime wethers brought up to 42/4; prime, 40/-; fighter sorts, 38/-; ewes, 28/-.

Store Cattle.—There was an extra large yarding of all classes of stock. Dairy cows were well represented, and they sold very well, one lot averaging £l3. There was a large entry of calves, hut the demand eased off as the sale progressed. Steers were in good demand, three-year-olds bringing £l3 10/-, two-year-olds from 010 10/- to £ll 10/-, yearlings from m 10/-.

BURNSIDE MARKET

DUNEDIN, August 22

At Burnside, 250 fat Cattle were penned. The quality was not too good and prices were "easier. Best, bullocks, £2O to £2l 10/-; extra, £23 15/-; medium to good, £l6 10/- to £lB 10/-; best cows and heifers, £l6 to £l7; extra, £23; medium to good, £l4 to £ls; others, £lO upwards. Sheep.—2l62 penned. The quality was. not so good as lately, and values dropped about 1/6. Best wethers 42/- to 48/-; extra, 55/-; medium to good, 35/- to 38/-; best ewes, 42/- to 45/-; extra, 49/9; medium to good, 34/- to 38/-; others, 27/6 upwards. .Pigs.—Very small yarding. Eats sold at an advance on last week’s rates. There was a large entry of Stores and prices, especially for suckers, were slightly easier.
