The annual concert in aid of the Convent school funds was held in the Public. Hall on rriday evening, >utn November. The attendance, though much uclow that of - previous >fcai=. was very sarislactaxy. The programme was lengthy and varied ana ui an attractive description. The pupils acquitted themselves brilliantly and in a manner that spoke volumes for their instructors, and the Sisters are to be commended for the measure of success attained, in past years the pupils coniriouted the whole of the programme, but on this occasion the promot iers engaged a number of ladies and gentlemen from different parts _ of southland. Mr Jno. horde presided, A number of drills, 'action songs, duets, vocal and instrumental dialogues, and choruses given by the children met with outbursts of hearty applause. The remainder of the pro. gramme consisted of songs by -Mrs Koss and Mr T. Brown, Invercargill) Messrs Wilson, J amieson and ikoffugan, of Winton, Misses N. and T. ITish on, Centre Bush, and Mr Applegivrth of Nightcaps. Each number was so well rendered as to admit of but lue discrimination. An, Irish jig:, Seauntreus, and highland fling was splendidly executed (by Miss Miller of Invercargill T’w 0 selections played by an orchertra were capital items. All the performers were cordially received and some soi pleased that they were recalled. The accompaniments' .were taslfully played by Misses Hishon and horde and Mrs Captenaes. Mr Cf ’Wilson of Invercargill supplied music for the step-dances. At the close of the concert Mr h orde thanked ihe l:budiencc for their patronage and at the same tim? (Complimented the teachers for the excellent manner in which the children acquitted themselves, he a,so thanked the nerform?rs and alt those who largely helped to make the concert a success. Refreshments, kindly supplied by the ladies of the parish, were dispensed, all testifying to the choice selection of eatables.
