(From Our Own Correspendent.o We auto halving a spell of real spring wether here, therefore farming operations are going apace. The sowing of oats by mosttfarmers is nearing completion. On the larger farms some are sowing ajs much as two hundred acres ; but on the majority of farms the area ranges from forty to eighty acres. .The outlook for next season’s crop, 'if the prijces ruling now keep steaJdy (while not nearly so good as last year), will be fairly iwmuneratiive, providing we get lair crops and good harvest weather.

Lambing is general now, and there will be some high percentages, if thijS weather continues for another fortnight,, \ [ A special meeting ,cf tha»Opio Branch of the Farmers’ Union was held on 12-tjh September for the purpose of having a requisition signed by ratepayers and presented to James Ritchie asking him to allow himself to be nominated for tCSmk in the Wallace County Council to represent Wairio -Riding, This has been done and cm Tuesday a deputation 'consisting of Messrs R. -H. D. Macdonald, P. O’Meara anil C. S. Stevens waited upon -Mi' Ritchie, presenting him with a numerotilysignod requisition. Mr Bisse't i ffada a few well-chosen remarks, hoping Mr Ritchie would accede .to the request of the ratepayers. The other members of the deputation also spoke in support of the request. Mb*. There is to bo a ball held in the Opio Hall on October l'6th, for the purpose of raising funds to have an addition made 1 0 the hall here as at present i-t is fan- too Small, it fa to be hoped that the committee, who have taken the matt** in hand will he able to raise -sufficient funds to complete the work within a reasonable time.
