Social at Clifden.
On January 17-th a very oleasant evening was spent at Birchgrove Estate, Clifden, when invitations were issued by Mr and Mrs A. I<\ Blatcii, for a ball, to receive Mr and Mrs \V. J. Blatch on their return from their honeymoon trip, were heartily responded to by the people of Clifden and surrounding district. The happy couple were married at Westport on Jan. 2wJ,
The bride was attired in her wedding dress which was a very prettv cream taffeta trimmed with silk and lace. Mrs Blatch, mother of the bridegroom, wore a black satin blouse and black voile skirt; Misses Blatch (3) very pretty white muslin dresses' trimmed lace and in sertion; Miss J. Mackintosh pale blue muslin blouse black skirt; Miss E Whyte white silk blouse, black skirt; Miss M Whyte white muslin dress trimmed lace ; Mrs *J. King pretty grey voile ; Miss M. Beadle (Dunedin) blue silk blouse light • skirt; Mrs 'J. McKerchar (Waimatuku) pretty grey dress; From Scotts Gap: Miss J. Officer pretty blue blouse black skirt; Miss Ferguson pretty bldck voile; Miss E. Ferguson cream blouse black skirt. FromOrawia: Miss A. McDonald red silk blouse dark skirt; Miss Ballantyne white silk blouse blue skirt) Miss M. Moir blue cashmere trimmed cream silk ; Miss McCall cream blouse black skirt. From Lillburn: Mrs Mather black dress trimmed silk and lace; Miss J. Carmicheal, white silk blouse trimmed lace and black skirt. From Papatotara: Miss Erskine cream silk blouse and black skirt. Excellent music was supplied by Messrs A. Mackintosh (piano) and W. West (violin). Mr A. Wilson ably performed the duties of M.G. Songs were rendered during the evening by Miss Beadle, Master L. Piper and Mr Wakefield, and a recitation by Mr T. Blatch. Mr West proposed the health of the brideand bridegroom which was' heartily responded to. An excellent supper was provided and done ample justice to. Dancing was H'pt up till daylight and rnoed with the singing of Auld Lang Syne.—Guest.
