Riverton Racing Club

The annual general meeting-of ISifveV] Club whs held on Tuesday evening'in Town Hall, when there was a good at« :■'-■ tendance. The President (Dr Trotter) occupied the chair. The lion, treasurer ( Mr V. R. Hack. woith) submitted the , balance-sheet, which showed oho Club to be in a good § financial position, £450 being on fixed de- ? posit, and the balance at open account. The next season therefore starts with a balance of over £SOO, clear of all liabili- ' ties, and this after tho club has spent a large amount of money from time to time on grandstand, saddling paddock, totalisator house, lawn, etc. ;in fact, the.club - has kept well up-to-date, and has not '. spared expense in catering for the comfort of the public and visiting ownersk The stakes, too, are liberal for a country club, viz, £550, for the two days' meeting, and the percentage of stakes to tote money (£4776) compare.mora than, favorably with the majority of clubs. The btalisator money last year showed a . small decrease, but that was entirely due to the wet weather at Easter. Had it been fine, there is every reason to-believa"-that a record meeting would have resulted. As it was, the meeting resulted in a. profit of £2OO, which should be eonsid-y ered eminently satisfactory. In ni( ving the adoption of the report *nd naUnce-sheet, the Chairman said thq Clnl) was in a good financial position, and the ofheers were deserving of praise for tho manner in which they managed affairs. H« hoped the Club would continue to prosper, and he would like to long the Club in possession of a \L their own. - In seconding the motion, Mr Willetfc ,' ' endorsed the remarks of the Chairman. If the present course could be bought he thought it would be a wise step to pur-i f -'■'•■ chase it. .

Report adopted. The Chairman' said the next business was the election of office-bearers for the year, and in vacating (he chair, he had to thank them all for the assistance he had always received. The members' had worked well together, and ho had found it a pleasure to preside at the meetings. On the motion of Mr Hack worth, sec. onded by. Mr Stevens, Dr Trotter was again nominated for the position of Presi* dent, and being the only one was declared elected, aniidst applause.
