A SYMPATHETIC ORDER.
Policemen ate generally by nature philanthropic, and any rare member of the force who may Uck that altractive virtue is now requested to he so by order of the Metropolitan Commissioner, at all events in the case ol people who have imbibed too much alcohol. In future when a constable sees an intoxicated man approach a public-house in quest of " another pint, ' he is to stop the ra?h and foolish person, and by moral persuasion, or otherwise, turn him into the path which leads to his home. Shoald the misguided ami oh.stiuate man reject the advice, so much the worse for him. Also, should a. constable see inside a public-house au inebriate who has surreptitiously loimd bis way there, he is instructed to wain the publican of his condition. This new police order was mentioned id a case hefore the (jreeuwich Magistrate, and his Worship remarked that it was a very good regulation.
