CARE.
None save the very young escape her clutches. Gnant and grizzled and grey, she lays her lean fingers on all, steals the b>oOm from the cheeks, ithe color from the hair, and the lus-jtre--frora the eye ; draws unlovely lines and seams up and- down- the Ifo ehead, and «ad- curves*-round ' the dips. She haunts the husband and father at his de>k, in his study, at i the plough, or in the mine, showing always the darkest side of life, and harping on the many- difficulties ahead, drawing such a film overthe eyes that they fail to see the blessings hovering nearvo She clogs the footsteps of the- busy housewife—makes more seams and furrows on her face j than does all the ceaseless toil of | brain and hand ; she withers up the ! heart by standing between it and , Hope ; stills or jars the music of the j soul, music which God sends into; every life to aid and cheer us. When ! the children <romp and shout in the merriment of childish hearts, Care whispers,Their■-<clothes will*! wear out before they get others;” When they rushdn with healthy appetites to enjoy a meal, Cape will we fill '.the flour barrel again ?” [ When the children go to school she says, “ They will learn as much evil i as good.” When they go forth into ' tho world, Care crys, “ The wo'ld is full of temptations; they will fall before them.” Do not listen to her, poor weary mother. She will only j nuke yon old before your time, and we all grow old before our work is done. tells you that the waters will be deeper further on. Very well, One mightier than Care has said, when thou passeth through the waters I will be with thee.” She makes you fear an empty meal barrel and worn-out clothing. One has tenderly said, “ Consider the lilies. . Tear not, your heavenly Father knoweth that ye have need of these things.” Care made you. afraid to see your young .people go out into tho wor d. Christ prayed, “ I pray not that Thou, shouldst take them out of tho world, but that Thou shouldst keep them from the evil.” In faith*you may pray His-prayerdu behalf of tho dear* ones.. When Care presses you sorely meet her with Trust, faithfully do your part, and defv her to rob you of the, gladness which is your right. God will step in when yon can go no farther, and finish what yon cannot. There are many ways, too, in which yon may beguile Caro of her prey. Do you know one heart sadder than your own ? Then, strive to comfort that heart. Do you know one whoso burden is heavier than yours? Then help to bear that burden—strive to shed a little light on the darkness surrounding some stricken one. While you think and plan thus for others, Caro mnst stand back. For all real sorrow sent you by the hand of God strength will be given. Love, a Father’s love, will lighten; it. However dark the way, Howevwvuad it prove. Teach ue, our God, in all to see The sunshine of Thy love. If :we see .that dove, then shall we never sink-under Care, for we shall cast it all on God, feeling sure that “ He careth for ut.” Violet
