COLAC BAY SPORTS.

The Colao Bay annual sports oamo off on Wednesday in a suitable paddock near the school, the running events being got off on the beach. The attendance was good, and the greatest interest was manifested in the proceedings. When the Catholic schools, which had coma through from Invercargill to hold a picnic, arrived, the beach presented a gala appearance, and the sports attracted quite a number of the visitors who thronged the foreshore near the trysting-place. The weather was all that could be desired up to three o’clock when a warm rain commenced to fall, and continued until six, many who had not brought topcoats getting drenched, which was not discomforting in the least aftar the long spell of dry sultry weather. The programme comprised 20 events, the entries were numerous, the contests keen, and nothing ofcnrrod to mar the day’s pleasure. Punctuality was the order of the day, and the energetic committee are to be congratulated on the amount of "go” they put into the proceedings. There was no waiting about, no vexatious delays, and the result was that the last race, that of the committee, was run at about 5.30. The haudioappers and judges gave every satisfaction, and of the committee who were hard-workers, wo must particularise the indefatigable secretary, Mr 0. Hopgood, who was unremitting in his exertions, and Messrs Holland, McKenzie, Cash and others. The chopping events created a little excitement, each competitor’s friends barracking him with right good will. The men entered into the spirit of the thing, and—well, cut like bashmen.
