THE EARLY DAYS.
TO THE EDITOR. Sir, —While perusing your very interesting and apposite remarks regarding the early days and tho Pioneer Picnic, I noticed a mistake in regard to the drowning accident, which you. will kindly allow mo to correct. The accident occurred on tho Bth of December, 1858, and the names of those drowned wore as follows—The prospective bride and bridegroom, Maggie Grieve and Adam Wilson, Alf. Jackway and his wife; Kate Kelly, and Messrs Hunt and Smith, sis persons in all. Hunt was n married man, and his widow and children resided for a long time in Invercargill, bis son Harry being the first child born there. Mrs Hunt subsequently married Dr McChrystal, and that is the only connection he had with the sad episode— l am, etc, G. E. Ronald. Waianiwa.
