SOUTHLAND EDUCATION BOARD.

Friday, Dec 7. The ordinary meeting of the Board was held yesterday. Present: Mr Jas Mackintosh (chairman), and Messrs Froggatt, Bain, Lumsden, Baldey, Matheson, McLeod, and Mac Gibbon. It was decided, on the application of the North Wairio Committee, to change the name of the school to “ Opio.” The Southland branch of the New Zealand Educational Institute submitted a scheme for the classification of the appointments under the Board, and it was referred to the Inspectors for report. Miss Sutton,, pupil teacher at Thorubury was granted an extension of leave of ab sence. It was resolved to request the head teacher of the Drummond school to ask the committee to enforce the compulsory attendance of pupils.
