The well-known temperance, advocate, Mr T. W. Glover, of Auckland, is in Wellington to gaiu support for certain measures which are coining before tho House, in which the temperance party are interested. One of these is a bill, given notice of by ,Mr Joyce to amend the Licensing Act of 1881. Tho main feature of this measure is that it provides for local option at tbo ballot 'box. Mr Joyce is acting in this matter as the representative of the New Zealand Alliance.

A. number of the government supporters intend urging on the Premier the desirability of dealing with the question of tho female franchise in a separate measure, instead of tacking it on to the Electoral Bill. Mr Duthie will try and s.eb introduced in tho Electoral Bill a clause providing that persons temporarily absent from home on polling day may voto in other parts of the colony by means of electoral rights similar to those now issued to seamen.

Replying to the Hon. Mr Richardson on Tuesday, tho Minister of Lands said that not one single acre of land had been granted to the Now Zealand Pine Company since he had assumed office.—(Ministerial cheers) — and that the statement published by ..Mr Koyds, a discharged Civil servant, was absolutely untrue.
