ORAKI.

(FROM OUR OWN COItRBSrONDENT.)

Tho wintrier during the lust week lias been and is still, very rough, blustering gales accompanied by heavy showers of rain with nail and thunder at intervals. Mr D. Corkery discovered a fish In a pool of water close to his place, woich had apparently come in a shower of bail. It is about 4 inches in length, about an inch across tho middle, and seemingly very young. It "as exhibited in the G-lobe Hotel to-day, but no one among tho experts who had seen it appeared to be able to state wh if kind of fish it is.

It. is to ho hoped that tho ratepayers will turn np in strong lorco on Thursday and record their votes in favor of the remaining link of tho RivertonOrepuki road. It will be a great pity if they lose this opportunity of doing so, as it is well known that this portion of c 'rdurov track at present costs the County £IOO a year to keep it in ropa’r, a sum which will pay the interest and sinking fund on the cost of constructing a good road available for wheel traffic. Then again Jif _ any miner or settler between Orspuki and Riverton wants the assislance of a •doctor, it is impossible for him to travel along the present corduroy track either bv day or night, and if the Railway Department ware not so obliging as to permit their trollies and bicveins to run along the line in cases of accidents, tho residents would fare very badly indeed. Therefore I trust that every ratepayer wdll turn up and record his vote in favour of the road March 21, 1891.
