WRECK OF THE ALBION.

The well-known steamer Albion, which since she has resuming running in the Hew Zealand trade has been re-christened the Centennial, while outward bound for Wellington, was run down in Sydney harbor on Friday last by the steam collier Kanahooka and sank ten minutes later. The vessel went down bow first, and only her mastheads arc to bo seen above water. Although injured the Kanahooka kept afloat. The Centennial had on board 23 saloon and 31 steerage passengers, many of whom are rendered quite destitute. Immediately the collision occurred boats were lowered and the passengers taken oil. The crew were rescued by a passing steamer. The cook, who was in the forecastle at the time of the collision, crawled through the ImV made bv the Kanahooka, and jumped into the sen. limb. The poor fellow was rescued and taken to the hospital. The passengers and crew lost everything except what they stood in.

August 25 Further inquiries made as to the steamer Centennial show that Sargant (the chief cook) and Eiddlo (a fireman) are reported to be missing. The two men were in their bunks at the time of the mishap, and as their apartments were situated near tho spot where the vessel was cut down it is believed they were crushed to death. One of the steerage passengers is reported to have been lost, but the information lacks confirmation.
